From 27 to 29 June, 2022, several ESiWACE colleagues will  be attending PASC22, the 2022 Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing conference, to present their work and foster exchange, both on behalf of either ESiWACE2 or their home institutions.

Minisymposia:

  • Monday, 27 June, 2022, 16:00 - 18:00 CEST, Osaka Room
MS2A - Leveraging Data Lakes to Manage and Process Scientific Data

For domain researchers in public research institutions, a research data management solution should ensure the preservation of the data and support and guide them in complying with good scientific practices from the very beginning. In order to discuss the current challenges in data management, their possible solutions and to share personal insights into data lakes, this minisymposium brings different experts together to discuss the potential and technical approaches with the scientific community.

Organisers: Hendrik Nolte (GWDG), and Julian Kunkel (GWDG), session chair: Hendrik Nolte

MS2C - Nexus of AI and HPC for Weather, Climate, and Earth System Modelling
How can AI/ML best be used to build or improve digital twins of the Earth for a wide range of applications, ranging from extreme weather to renewable energy, down to highly localised scales, such as for cities?
This minisymposium addresses the challenges and opportunities at the nexus of HPC, describing scientific and computing challenges, as well as solutions and visions for the future. Furthermore, the speakers will demonstrate recent developments in workflow software and data management systems enabling the development of efficient and scalable AI solutions for weather and climate modelling.

Organisers: Karthik Kashinath (NVIDIA Inc., Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), Bing Gong (Forschungszentrum Jülich), and Peter Dueben (ECMWF), session chair: Karthik Kashinath
