Role in the project

Atos’ Center for Excellence in Performance Programming (CEPP) is involved in the “HPC services to prepare the community for the pre-exascale” through the coordination of and the technical involvement in the “Model portability and refactoring” project services in collaboration with the Netherlands eScience Center where HPC research software engineers offer their expertise to climate and earth system modeling groups across Europe. Within 6-month collaborative projects, we intend to provide guidance and advice regarding the performance, portability to new architectures, and scalability of selected applications. Atos’s CEPP is also involved in the performance analysis and benchmarking of weather and climate codes.

Names of the colleagues involved

Dr. Erwan Raffin, Dr. David Guibert and Georges-Emmanuel Moulard.

Relevant infrastructure and services available for climate & weather

Atos’ CEPP has got mainly access to two computing clusters hosted at the Atos France facilities. Both are continuously being upgraded to the latest technologies (CPU, accelerators as GPU, network, memory, etc.).

The first one is a medium scale system dedicated to experimentation bed. It is heterogeneous and its resources are evolving quickly in order to test early upcoming technologies.

The second one is a large scaled system based on systems in delivery testing. It is designed for performance and is continuously equipped with hundreds of nodes embedding last generations of CPUs and possibly accelerators.
