What is your role in ESiWACE?

I’m currently co-leading the WP1 “Production runs at unprecedented resolution on pre-exascale supercomputers” with Peter Düben (ECMWF). In this WP, BSC is working with the EC-Earth coupled climate model to build a VHR (very high resolution) configuration to be able to run climate simulations in a groundbreaking resolution with decent throughput.

What do you appreciate most about your work?

I appreciate working with cutting-edge technologies like HPC in collaboration with earth scientists. Together, we can run those models in these complex infrastructures and get scientific results to be used to better understand our climate.

Which question in climate and weather research interests you the most?

I’m interested in how to deal with supercomputers to produce science in an efficient way. I’m not an earth scientist, so my role is to set up and deliver a usable framework to our users (scientists) to make use of those complex machines in the easiest possible way.

What drives you and what do you want to achieve?

I really enjoy when everything works well. I’m a research engineer, I love setting up processes and workflows and seeing that everything is working when completed… What a feeling! And of course, working with scientists to better understand something as important as our Earth - this is really fulfilling for me.
