ESiWACE3 at HiPEAC 2026: Driving Collaboration on Scientific Applications for Exascale

Between 26–28 January 2026, the HiPEAC conference once again brought together Europe’s high-performance computing community, and ESiWACE3 actively contributed to the programme. As one of the leading European forums connecting academia, industry, and policy in computing systems, HiPEAC continues to play a key role in shaping the future of HPC and emerging architectures.

As part of the conference, ESiWACE3 joined forces with the European Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to organise the workshop: “Rethinking scientific applications for exascale and emerging architectures: the Centres of Excellence challenge.

This workshop focused on how scientific applications must evolve to fully exploit exascale systems and emerging heterogeneous architectures, while also fostering stronger collaboration across the European HPC and Quantum ecosystem.

A distinctive aspect of the workshop was its strong involvement of early-career researchers and speakers from underrepresented groups across European HPC and Quantum CoEs. Their contributions brought fresh perspectives and practical experiences to discussions on modernising scientific software. Key themes addressed during the workshop included:

  • Modernising and rewriting legacy codes
  • Developing new algorithms suited to next-generation systems
  • Improving performance on emerging HPC and Quantum architectures

Building on previous HiPEAC CoE workshops, this event further strengthened collaboration among Centres of Excellence and reinforced the importance of closer interaction between HPC and Quantum initiatives within the EuroHPC ecosystem. WhatsApp Image 2026-01-27 at 14.00.18.jpeg

Overall, HiPEAC 2026 provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange, new partnerships, and increased visibility for ESiWACE3 within the European HPC community.
